In your comment you state your timing is at TDC.
I'm not sure about the 8n but my ford 2000, at 450-475 rpm should be at 4 degrees before TDC at 2200 rpm it should be 24 degrees before TDC. The wrong timing will cause hard or no starting. without timing marks on the flywheel I'm not sure how to verify the timing accurately.
