Wood is a four heat source, once cutting, once splitting, once stacking, once loading :) plus you get to go out in the cold each night to load the unit. Have you thought about building your own from stone and mortar? How about the Russian firelplace designs?
If I was going to install a outdoor burner, I'd atleast want a all nighter sized box with a indoor damper control rod.
Depending on how the rooms are laid out, some times a return fan system works better than a supply fan system.
