I used freeware AVG for quite a number of years and finally went to a paid version as it had some added benefit. In my opinion it is one of the best, HOWEVER an update gave me problems and rendered it unusable at all and AVG would not answer any emails for obtaining support. I finally uninstalled it as I felt my computer needed protection.
I now use Avast which many recommend. It is a freeware version that I use. No problems thus far.
If it weren't for support issues with a paid version I would still be using AVG. I cannot recommend their product because of that.
