I well remember the days when, due to lack of refrigeration capacity, we rented locker space in town and picked up the meat we had butchered and packaged on the way home. But then we got a freezer, which we really don't need anymore because HIGH QUALITY, PLENTIFUL, RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE food is readily available. In case you haven't noticed, things never do stay exactly the same very long. I look around my neighborhood and can tell you where 40, 60 and even 80 acre farms were that are now farm fields with no sign whatsoever of any buildings (houses, barns, chicken coops, silos). All gone. We can plant 24 acres an hour. Harvest about 10 acres an hour. Around the clock if necessary. We have 7 billion people to feed. That's serious business.
