The NIC card (network interface card) also called ethernet adapter, could be failing, but I suspect that there is an issue with the computer. Check the CPU use during operation with the system monitor capability (sys7 or vista) or the control alt delete with XP) this might show continuous CPU use when idle. If it does it could be a virus, worm, malware, or other software issue, or it could be internal connection or fault. Reseat the memory chips in the Mother board first if it is heavy CPU use. Jim
