IS IT POSSIBLE TO UNLOCK TRANSMISSION WITHOUT TAKING THE TOP COVER OFF? GOT OFF TO CLOSE GATE AND LOCKED WHEN I TRIED TO START AGAIN.

Just to add to what others said, If its on a hill, chock the rear whells before attemping to line up the shift rails. I have only had one to do that to me , and even on the slightest hill I couldnt get them frred up. Chocked the bqack wheel, pushed in the clutch to take off the pressure and with 20 seconds I had them lined back up.

It is possable to get it back without taking the lever out if you know what your doing and hold you mouth just right. Do it with a big screwdriver a few times you will catch on. Or else tou will get sick of it and build up the shifter. third party image

When u get the shifter out look at the end that goes into the shift rails-it is probably worn and so might the rails. For now you can get along by holding the shifter down when you shift and feeling for the detents. Common problem.

yup, at the base of the shifter there is a cap on each side, you need to drive the cap in to pop the other side off, you will see a pin inside, drive the pin out, the shifter will lift out, look inside, you will see the shift rails, go in with a screwdriver and line them back up, that will put every thing back in neutral, drop shifter back in, good to go!!!!! !
