Just wondering the pros and cons to converting from a narrow front to a wide. I have located one for sale. I do use the tractor with a loader. My questions would be is the wide more or less support for having weight on the front end. Also would it help by not getting stuck as often? I do assume it will be a little harder to turn without power steering. Let me know your thoughts. The price for the front end without wheels is $400 thanks

I just did a conversion on my 45 H, real simple. The one I put on looks pretty stout, I always felt they were a bit more stable under a loader.

Is it just the four nuts and it comes off. Any advise before doing it?

You be careful and stay completely out from underneath that tractor while you're making the swap!

I switched to a wide front because the manure spreader would make the front end REAL light when getting near unloaded. Turning radius is poor. I have a Swartz, so better than an IH wide front. Pulls the disks a lot better in the loose soil around turns. I feel no more nor no less stable with it. If it weren"t for the manure spreader and frequent disking/harrowing I would go back to the narrow. Steering is tough in the dort too. My advice, if not for what I use it for, or a loader, I would keep the narrow. I think the narrow looks better on a H anyways. Mike

Wide front does make them a little safer then with a narrow front. But you can't turn as shape with a wide front and yes with the right tires on you don't get stuck as easy but if you do get stuck you end up stuck worse. As far as weight I think a narrow front will hold up better to more weight then a wide one would but I can't say for sure it just looks like it would

If you have all the hardware, it is a simple job to change over. Raise the tractor and be sure to support it securely. Block tires and keep transmission in low gear. Remove four bolts and the narrow front is ready to be removed. The wide front will bolt on to the tractor frame and the steering will bolt up to the same spot as where the narrow front bolted too.

Can't say on an IH/farmall but on an Oliver its a 2 man job and 3 would have been a lot better. I guess it all depends on what equipment you have on hand. I took the wide front off a 450 once to rebuild some of the front end parts and it was easy to get back on but I had it in my shop where I have a hoist and on the oliver it wasn't in the shop so it wasn't all that easy
