I put a 4 terminal voltage regulator on my 6 volt generator. I have the L,H,D,B light switch. The question I have is; do I connect the "L" terminal from the voltage regulator to the fuse post on the light switch or do I run a wire from the load side of the ammeter from the "Bat" terminal down to the fuse post and leave the "L" terminal on the voltage regulator unused?

Replaced the voltage regulator on my M not long ago as i was having issues... it works properly now after fumbling with a new one that was junk right out of the box... new voltage regulators aren't the most reliable things out there btw...

I have the 12VDC positive OR negative ground regulator (as i have my M wired 12 VDC negative ground) that you can buy at TSC, etc that mounts on top of the regulator. It has the A (GEN) input underneath, a BAT terminal, F (Field) terminal and L (Load) terminal... the A (GEN) wire from A terminal on generator is hooked to A terminal on regulator, the Field terminal on generator runs to the light switch in the box beneath steering wheel (this allows the L H D B settings to change the resistance load and increase gen output). the BAT terminal is attached to the wire that runs to the Ammeter in the light switch box.

polarize it and see how it works... i had a bad connection in my generator besides the sticking new regulator that would not open points under a negative current situation.

The "correct" wiring is to feed the fuse post from the regulator L terminal. However it will also work wired the other way as you suggest - only difference is the lights may burn a bit dimmer.

Red, FIRST of all, with a full fledged 4 terminal VR (BAT FLD LOAD ARM) instead of a 2 wire (BAT GEN) Cutout Relay, you DO NOT wire the gennys Field post up to the LHBD light switch. The light switch can still be used, of course, to operate the lights. Its just no longer used to regulate the gennys charge rate by wiring it to the gennys Field post.

On a 4 terminal VR loads like lights and ignition are served/fed from the VR"s LOAD terminal instead of the Load (NOT battery/starter) side of the ammeter such as on a Cutout Relay or a 3 terminal (BAT ARM FLD) VR. If the BAT input terminal on lights or ignition switches are currently fed off the ammeters load terminal, remove that and instead wire the switchers BAT input terminals down to the LOAD terminal on a 4 terminal VR. NOTE the load side of the ammetr still is wired down to the BAT terminal on a VR, regardless if its a 3 or 4 terminal.

BAT on VR to load side of ammeter FLD on VR to gennys Field post ARM/GEN on VR to gennys ARM post LOAD feeds hot battery voltage to lights and Ignition via the switches BAT input terminal(s)

The lights n ignition would still work if fed off the ammeter and the VR will still work if the LOAD terminal isnt used..... buttttt t its best if wired as I described.

Polarize the genny before you fire her up

what did the instructions that came with the reg say as some regs want the field linecut and a new wire ran to the lite sw. Are you sure you have the rite one for your gen? Does it want pos gnd or neg?
