Stuck piston woes

I am stil trying to unstick a piston in my 50 M. I have a 8 ton bottle jack under the tractor and a steel tube pushing up on the stuck piston. However, it is lifting the front of the tractor (obviously it's really stuck). I can't soak it anymore because there is a hole in the top of the piston ( a result of a failed attempt at trigging up a puller...but that's another story) Any ideas? I'm hoping the sleeve comes with the piston but as of now, nothing is happening. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

IF SLEEVE IS RUSTED UP, GET AS MUCH OF IT LOOSE AS POSSIBLE, THEN USE CYLINDER HONE TO POLISH SLEEVE. MAY NEED TO DO THIS 2 OR 3 TIMES AND SOAK WITH PB BLASTER, THEN KNOCK OUT WITH PIECE OF WOOD FROM BOTTOM. I HAD A CASE 800 WITH SAME PROBLEM ON 2 CYLINDERS, THIS WORKS FOR ME.

I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 39 "M". I TRIED ALL TYPES OF CHEMICALS WITH NO RESULTS. I REMOVED THE HEAD, OIL PAN AND BOTTOM HALF OF PISTON BEARING. THEN I PLACED A PIECE OF 2/4 WOOD AGAINST THE ROD AND TAPPED THE WOOD. IT PUSHED THE PISTON AND SLEEVE OUT THE TOP. THE TRACTOR HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE PASTURE FOR 20 ODD YEARS WITHOUT A COVER OVER THE EXHAUST. NO 3 WAS THE ONLY PISTON THAT WAS STUCK. GOOD LUCK

Is all of the other pistons loose where the crank will move away from the stuck piston,if so take a heavy peice of steel and drive the piston out of the bottom, there is a enough room for removing the piston out of the bottom.I have do this before

This will do it! Re: Stuck piston woes in reply to sccwells, 05-09-2007 06:08:48
1/4 stick of dynamite! ;)) Just kidding! But if you can plug the hole clean any oily residue and soak with pure Lime Away this will eat away at the rust that will release it. If it has Al alloy pistons it will also eat at the Al alloy.

Use a muffler chisel (dog legged hand tool with a curl cutting shape to the business end) and start in the hole you have and work to the side (not toward a pin boss, but the side of the engine) and cut away the pieces a bit at a time. Form a slot that heads for the piston rings from the inside out. Do not wedge or cut toward the outside first it will crack the cylinder wall casting. The rings are cast iron and will break easily. Leave serious pressure on it from the bottom, just shy of lifting the tractor. JimN
