Hey ever one today I went over to see if that cub woud start. I got a hand crank for it and a new battery. Well when we got over there it needed gas and watter so we come back to the house and get the watter and gas. Thanks god we only live right down the raod lol. But we get the battery on and put gas in it and I crank on it and it turns over but it will stop after 10 secs if that. Well it has a in line filter and it was not getting any gas so I took it off and I got that where a lil gas was comeing in it. Then I tryd it once more and it still woud not start. And I know there is gas in the carb the gas is comeing out of the old seals. We tryd and hand crank it and it still woud not start. So what do I do now guys? I know the thing where ya kill it at was turnd on or what ever. In then how do ya get the darn hood off? Does the gass tank come off with it or what I tryd to get it off and I cant. I hate to spin 50 bucks to have a guy I know come out and hall it hear when its not even 2 foot ball fields away lol. Thanks for the help.

you will get it going, these are simple motors, why do you have a battery and a hand crank, I know they can both be used on the same tractor ,, but if you have a battery do you also have a starter installed???

you either dont have spark or you flooded the carb, if in fact it ran for a little while you probably have spark, but it is flooding, check your point gap, and spark gap, you may need a faster spin to keep the engine running, if you live close by and tow it home put in in 3rd and have the gas on, the ignition button out and try to pop the clutch,

a faster spinning engine is sometimes the key to the first start of the tractor after it is sitting awhile, if there is a starter on the tractor use it it will spin it faster than you can by hand,

make sure the gas is FlOWING out of the gas line at the carb, if it is a trickle you need to address that first,, these engines are process of elimination when they dont start, all they need to run is gas air and spark, simple times back then.

I dont have a big shop or any thing like that I do my stuff under a pine tree lol but I have all the air tools and stuff. I just wish I had a engine puller. But at lest I have my dad im not that big of a guy for 18 well Im only 110 pounds 5 7. LOL not big at all so if I cant get a bolt lose Ill yell dad and he says now what lol. Before you do much with it I would pour some tranny fluid in the cylinders. That will help up the compression and also loosen up the rings and prelube the cylinders. I know you said it has been sitting a while and that will help it a lot. I would also do a full tune up on it, points, plugs, condenrser and cap and rotor if it has a distubutor instead of a mag

Oh I understand that but sitting that long its still good to do the tranny fluid if for nothing else to clean up the cylinders and brake things loose

You should pull it home with a pickup, car, garden tractor or farm tractor. It won't take much to tow that little tractor to your home and save $50.00. Hal

Are you getting fire to the sparkplugs? You probably need to clean the points. Take some 320 wet or dry and clean the points until nice and shiny. Pull one of the sparkplugs to see if it's wet with gas. If its dry, squirt some gas into the plug hole. Reinstall the plug and see if the engine will run. Hal

the hood and gas tank are all one unit. there are screws atthe rear of the tank, take off the mesh grille and the two side curtains in the front, there are bolts there too, pretty sure you need to disconnect the headlight wires and slide them thru the hood grommets. if you dont have far to go, why not pull her home with a chain or a rope? try a shot of ether in the carb, carb cleaner, or a squirt of gas (oil can works good). did you pull the spark plugs and check em? are you getting spark?
