Today I spent time with my Dad ( don't get to see him but once every few months) we replaced the rear axle seals and then fixed a problem we created with the steering gearcase. I also learned how to post pictures! Thanks El Toro and others! You all will be seeing more of my 460 U. Theres lots here that needs repair

That sounds like when I was working there. Have you seen pictures of the MRAT. It's being made in SC as fast as they can so the trops can have them in Iraq. They're designed so those IED's won't do the damage as the Humvees have been receiving and offers a lot more protection for the crews. They need to give out more contracts
to other contractors so they can be fielded. Like Oshkosh or FMC. Hal

It was a lazy day, got up late, check the state of things in my newly planted garden and thought out a new road we're going to build on our land. Drove to the coast and went horseback riding, had dinner at a favorite seafood restaurant in Florence, fed and watered the neighbors goats, tilled some new spots for canatalopes and cucumbers, tiller died in the process which means I'll be working on it tomorrow, wrote this.

Huge thanks to our boys overseas, come home soon safe and sound.

Mike

Burned a ton of $3 gas through the car and a jet ski. Ate a nice T-bone steak that started marinating on Wednesday night. It was a great day to be an American! Thank you to all those (past and present) who serve and protect this great nation!

Baled 1800 bales of over ripe orchard grass. Just now came in from the barn. Unloaded 6 loads after dark. Lot cooler then.

I have a really good hay baler. The boy's and some hirerd help done most of the unloading last night. It was only 6 loads. The rest of it is on the ground waiting on customers to pick it up. By tonight most of it will be somewhere else, and I will have my money, hopefully. I sell it a little cheaper if they come and load it themselves. The baler is an IH 430 All Twine and it will eat hay. I have a 276 New Holland as well, but didn't use it yesterday. I seen my dad bale 2300 bales with a baler just like it once, pulling it with a 1957 Farmall 230, back in the 70s. He traded the baler off in 79 for a new roller. Traded the 230 off in 81 on a new 484 diesel. In about an hour I will start that baler again, I have about 30 acres cut that is left to bale. I hope to get done all together this week.

Thanks Butch. I don't think the 240 diagrams shows an o ring next to the bearing. I'll check to see if there's room for one when I get into it. I'm as busy as Tom W is cooking rear wheel weights, bolts, nuts, washers and the brush guard (bumper) using electrolsis. Best thing since, well you know the rest. David.

Also how did you pull the hubs? I see the seat on it so I assume you didn't pull the axles. If not, how did you press the hubs back on? IH 240 U that I've got to install axle seals in too. David.

David, Heres the order I removed parts untill I got to the bearing...Loosened bolt and retaining washer on the very end of the axle (it held the hub to the axle, then I slid the hub right off (easy to remove because oil leaking had it saturated to the point it could not corrode), then I unbolted the four bolt plate which has the hub seal and some felt seals in side it. but the real culprit to my leak was the oring found between the hub and the bearing. It was the last thing I removed. It took my a while to comprehend why there was oil leaking out the very end of the axle and not from that four bolt axle seal housing. It was the o-ring.

Butch, do me a favor and tell me if the rod running from the clutch stops against the plate the left disk brake housing fits on, or if it fits between the plate and the differential housing, which would make it go back further. I installed a new clutch which is non-functional, probably installed wrong, but that is one thing I wondered about. I am 99% sure it stops against that plate. I am not eager to split the tractor again, but it appears I will have to. Thanks.

I seem to have lost the "open email" thing. Pictures are fine, but I have a picture of mine before I disassembled it, it shows it against the plate, but I don't remember if I had that part apart previously. cnorwood@wbsnet.org, note the org, instead of com. My internet is from a "nonprofit" electric utility.
