There is a SH for sale and I verified that it is Stage II by the brakes, starter, battery box etc. However the owner says it does not have live PTO.
Is this possible? Is there another check besides depressing the clutch to see if it does have live PTO? What could be broken to cause the PTO to continually run when engaged?

Gordo

does the tractor in question have an M&W hand clutch? that kind of gives live pto if I understand it right. have never actually used one with the hand clutch so forgive me if I'm wrong. Would like to know the serial no. of the other tractor if you can get it Gordo. Thanks, Pat in Wis

The first tractor in the H lineage to have live PTO is the 300. Hs and Super Hs all have transmission-driven PTOs that stop when you press the clutch pedal.

He is not lying and nothing is broken. It does not have live PTO.

If an H is sttopped, in gear, clutch in, the shaft will not spin. If the trans is in neutral, clutch out, it spins from lubricant pushing it gently around. It is not Live PTO. JimN

A Super H will NOT have live PTO. The live PTO did not come out on that size until the 300 and 350.

If the PTO continues to run when you push the clutch in, then you probably can't get the tractor into gear either. Try putting it in gear...
