IH504 Steering

I have a 504 that the steering is intermittent, I guess would be the best word. When it's cold always, and sometimes when it warm it just stops working and squeals like mad. The engine lugs down and sounds like it's really working.

IT Manual seems to lead to the pressure relief valve being bad. Anyone ever had this problem??

Thanks,
Stu K

Yeah, I tried that first. The filter was dirty, and the oil had a little water in it, but it didn't help the steering.

Sounds like I have a pretty unique problem.

Thanks for the input, but mine does not have any u-joints that i can find. This is a utility model. Comes straight out of the steering shaft and into the steering motor. Couple of pipes running down to a distribution block and then tubing/hoses running up to the front end.

I had the tractor jacked up so the fron wheels did not have any weight on them, and still the same thing.
