Hello folks, Could you guys give me some info on a farmall B. I know a little but I'd like to know more. I found this old B behind a farm it looks it ok not running condition. The radiator cap is missing so that looks to be a problem. What are the top things to look at when trying to purchase one of these. Its gonna be a show tractor for my wife, ( I get the M ). Whats the top speed?

Thanks, Lineman

The B's were made from 1939 until 1947. They were a handy tractor for culivating and for other
light farm chores. We have a picture of my wife's mother driving a B pulling a manure spreader. It was taken back in the 1940's.
With that narrow front end it will turn sharp.
Truck farmers used them culivating their vegetables. They may have used them for plowing too.

You need to check the engine block to make sure it isn't broken and check to make sure the engine isn't stuck from sitting in the weather. You can probably free the engine with some work. Probably will need new sleeve kit. They have wet sleeves and new kits are available. Hal

Look for the draw bar had to find and expensive, look for water in the oil, look for cracks in the cast. A good general walk around. The top speed is around 10, 11 mph.

Look real close at the carb side of the engine. They are known to crack badly on that side. I have a B we had to part out because of that problem. Crack started just below the head in the front of the engine and ran all the way to the back of the engine. The crack mad a U shape so it could not be fixed in my book
