When I changed the rear end grease peices of a bearing cage came out. It was the wavy type for ball bearings and about 3/16th" wide. Anybody know what bearing it might be from before I tear into it? I am in the process of changing rear axel bearings right now and before I took it apart I thought it may have been one of those but those cages are real big compared to the peice that came out. Any ideas?

no the rear ends in m & h tractors was not a weak point, dont forget those tractors are from 50 to 70 years old, those axle bearings should have been replaced 20 years ago.most of the time you can see the top of the rear wheel tilted in at the top looking from behinde, you can also replace them threw the pto shaft hole.agin i dont know of any other machine that has run as many years as the old M&H tractors and taken so few dollors to keep running over the years,

Boy, I would have put my money on the rear axle bearings. Had the same thing happen to my H 20 yrs.ago. That was a week point on them tractors if you used them for heavy work. Rather then fix mine I sold it. Told the buyer some bearing parts came out of rear end but he didn't seam to concerned. He must have known something that I didn't.

Dad told me they busted a rear housing on one of grandpas tractors from a wheel bearing that came apart. The bull gear rammed a loose ball through the housing. On My H the LH axel was flopping and starting to rub the retainer but those cages are intact. New bearings will be here tues.

I don't know where it came from, but if it was mine, I wouldn't run that tractor again until I found out.

There is a smaller bearing in the PTO shaft housing that you bolt on to the end of the transmission case.

I will check that out.PTO is out now.PTO was working fine and no noise. There is some noise in tranny when clutch is out. Is the input shaft a smaller bearing?

The easy checking is done...now off comes the top to check it out! Have some big boys or a chain hoist around to lift it off.

Good thing I read this early! I was getting ready to go take off the top! ok so I guess I will need to pull the belly pump and then take out the clutch shaft? anything I need to know on doing this.

Ken

Ken on the mark again. I guess that is why they pay you so much more money than they pay me. :-)
