My mission is to narrow this bad boy up a bit BBUUTTT, a previous owner welded a bead where one should not be!! I hope it's not an all day event. Any tips?? Plan on using the right angle grinder and the die grinder but don't want to remove anything but bead!

To grind the axle round, make a v block to fit your grinder then hose clamp it ot the grinder. use a wedg under the back of the block between the grinder and the block to deepen the cut. it will make the weld disappear and majic will prevail. JimN

Like Allan said, it would be an exellent idea to pull them all of the way out. Not just to inspect and see what exactly you've got, but also to clean those tubes down to bare metal with a wire brush on your grinder. Apply a large amount of never-seeze to the tubes before you reassemble, and it might go a little easier next time you want to adjust.

From the looks of the picture, the bead is already starting to crack... maybe an air chisel would finish the crack? Once it's out you could dress it up with a grinder.

Take more pics and keep us posted, I would like to see what you find in there!

Butch,

Might wanna pull those tubes clear out and take a peek.

Think someone has welded extensions onto the original inner tubes to get an "abnormaly wide" stance.

Maybe you can just chop 'em off this side of the weld. All that tube is not going to slide into that center section anyway.

When I first saw it I thought it was extremely wide also. Should I jack it up and support both sides of the center tube with blocks or work on one side at a time so that gravtiy will lure lubricant to the inside of the center tube?

If you don't mind re-painting... a few heating and cooling cycles can really help out.

I've had good luck with PB Blaster...

I dunno,

If it is stuck, it's gonna be a fight no matter what ya do.

I work on 'em one side at a time. If they are stuck, I use two additional tractors to literally yank the dratted thing apart. One tractor chained on each side.
