I am looking at an allis chalmers side mount 7' sickle bar mower and I am wanting to put it on my fathers H. Is there enough " meat " there to support this mower?

I've used an H with a side mount IH sickle bar mower for several years now and haven't had any trouble.

Yes, they will support a mower. Steven in AZ has pics posted in the archives of an H with a 9 foot IH mower mounted on it. I have used the AC mower on a D-15 and it is a good mower.

Here it is... keep in mind that this has a frame piece that mounts to both sides of the tractor with bolts into both the frame rails and the bell housing...

This picture shows one side of the frame - it makes a "U" shape under the tractor and mounts on the other side the same way.

No problems so far, and the tractor it came off of had been used hard and showed no stress/damage to the frame.

That's the picture that I seen. Georgeky is right on about the hitch set up with the AC mower , it just attaches on one side with two pins that drop into thier mounts on the attached plate , but after seeing the " u " saddle design , I'm pretty sure that I can make it happen AND keep dad happy. Thanks for all of the replies and I will get some pics posted when I'm all done.

If you need any more pictures, let me know and I'll take pictures since I'm on the farm with my tractor now... It's good to be back where things are green and the dust is settled from time to time with some rain.

The AC is some different, it has two big sockets that mount to a bracket on one side of the frame. It may be a little heavy for the H frame. However, I don't see why it wouldn't mount to the mounting pad as well. I do believe with some rigging it should work fine. I have a broke rail on my 350D the original owner ran it in a hole and nearly broke the front off the tractor.

Guess I need to change my name again, back in ND currently...

Anyway, there is no reason you can't put a pipe under the tractor and attach it to a plate the bolts to the other side for extra strength. Make a U-shape like mine...

I saw the above post that said Steven@ND and thought you made a quick trip. Are you bringing that A home with you on this trip?

Yeah, the AZ is a habit...

No Farmall A this time around... going to be a Daddy, and Mommy will need some time off work so we are going to save up some money so she can get plenty of time off to be with baby come February.

That is a good plan. My wife stayed home until all of our's were in school. I don't think small children should be in day care. I know it can't be helped sometimes, but they need to be at home were they can be kids. Nobody will look after them like a mother. Mine are all grown. I still have one at home, but he has a decent job and is the best one of the bunch. While they are little is the easiest time with kids. My two oldest nearly drove me nuts after they got smrter than me. Good luck with the baby. He/she won't be a baby very long, so be sure to take lots of pics and video. Sadly, I lost all of my pics and video's in a house fire in 2000. I would give anything to have those back. When my oldest son was about 4 he was licking a big sucker and sharing it with the dog. He would take a lick and give the dog one, my wife got the camera and started filming when the dog grabed it from him. Josh got the old shepard by the mouth and took it back. He didn't care to share with him, but he wasn't about to let him have it all.

I have an H with an old Horn loader on it, it pushes from the axle housing but lifts with a bracket bolted to the frame just behind the front tires. It seems an abused loader would be harder on the frame than a mower, In the early days of Hot rod tractor pulling there were several H's that had the frame rails lenghtened and carried a big V8.Don't think I would worry about it, but's that is just my opinion.

Was it a frame mount side mower ? The frame rail strength looks iffy at best to me and to be honest, dads not real keen on the idea since the H is his " little man ". I was looking through the tractor photo galleries and seen an H with what I thought was the same mower but now I can't find it. The only thing that bugs me about the whole mess is the speed and the momentum that the cutter bar will have when raising and lowering it, not to mention the " bounce " it will have if I'm mowing with the bar up in the air a little bit . Like I said, I don't want to break the frame rail off of the tractor or I'm pretty sure that dad will have my hide! Any and all opinions are appreicated so please keep them comming.

We had an H and we used a 7-ft sickle bar mower
with no problems. This was back in 1950 when we got the new tractor and mower. Hal
