Has anyone had brakes on a 560 grab and lock up? If you just barely touch the brake pedal and it will lock up the wheel, Most of the time I will have to back up a little bit to get them to release. Does anyone know the fix for this problem? Or what causes it? I have had them apart and cleaned the dirt out and it helped for a short time but did not fix the problem. thanks

just did a super M last week that was doing the same thing.the springs that pull the actuator plates back together when you leave up on the pedal corrode and break sometimes-then you have to back-up to seat the metal balls back in their sockets.wire-wheel everything, get new springs and put a light coat of graphite on the metal balls and you should have real nice brakes.also check those metal balls for pitting or to see if they are worn oblong.

This is of no help to your problem, but rather confirmation that it is not an uncommon problem. We used to have a 560 that was similar to yours. As soon as you touched the brakes, they would lock up, but they would release as soon as you let off. The second application was usually smoother. It scares the crap out of you at road speed! Usually worn or dirty components is to blame. Good luck!

Hal: The list JB compiled will apply to them all. Each one of those problems will be worse as your discs get worn down, but the prime problem will still be one of the items he listed.

Hi, not totally fimiliar with 560 brakes but 300 brakes had two metal disks with three roller balls with tapered tracks in the metal disks. As the brakes we applied the roller balls would roll up the tapered tracks and push the metal disks into the friction disks.

Causes for grabbing and locking were:
1) grease on the friction disks
2) dirt on the roller balls or in the tapered tracks.
3) worn balls or tracks.

Good luck
JB
