A few days ago I had the M dynoed out and only hit 40. I have my doubts about the guy doing it. Anyways today I had my chance to see what it can do. Pulled a rear unload 16ft box full of 70%moisture haylage. Had some hills nothing steep but not a bad slope and had rpm's to spare. The boss and others wanted to see it and now they did. When I hauled a load to neighbors who's buying some hay said how much power are getting out of that. I said 40. BS!! he said no way. It don't pay to call the dealer because it is done and paid for. I got a nice tight wide front, 3 sets of weights on the rear, dry air filter, elec. ign. tubular steel manifolds. Stock carb. I got new bands so stopping is very good. I told the boss I'll have to try the 20 ft wagon. He also suggested taking the M and his 684 to the county fair's tractor pull and see who has the best. I said I got more weight than you and do I smell a challenge!! Anytime!

My 47 M has 264 cubic inches and high compression pistons. The head has be milled to increase compression ratio to about 7:1. The manifold has been matched to the ports and I am using a slightly bigger carb. The M puts out about 55 horsepower at 1600 RPM. The tractor is a farm tractor only on my ranch. The rear ends and drive train will not like over 60 HP for an extended time. The old M's are good old reliable tractors. Ray

I run the dyno at our threshing show and have tested my son's 1943 M (totally stock with new sleves & pistons) many times and it always puts out 40-43 hp on the PTO @ 540 RPM's depending on the weather conditions and if he put fresh fuel in it.

If you have doubts about the dyno operator, then that's most likley the problem. If he didn't have the engine loaded down to the correct rated speed for an M, the reading will not be correct. If you can pull the 16 foot box with no problem, I think you're doing just fine.
