Guys - Thanks for the feedback a few weeks back. Situation is: engine misses signficantly when running light and spark advanced. Runs smooth at full spark retard. Also runs smooth at full advance when under 50-100% load. Is not engine speed dependant. Have ruled out spark and valve timing & setting. Mag is sending a uniform, hot & repeatable spark. Have heard thoughts from other F-20 owners of weak valve springs, something other than Champion plugs, and "maybe they used to run that way". Any other thoughts? Other F-20 owners have smooth running engines out there? Thanx for your opinions !

Does the rotor have a grove worn in it where the brushes ride? This will make the brushes jump and cause erratic spark. Take the rotor out and lay on a sheet of sandpaper on a flat surface and sand away. Don't worry they are quite thick and you can remove a lot of material.

Have you done a compression check to see if the valves are seating properly? A valve that is leaking slightly can do that.
