Well the auction was today. I am proud to say I am the owner of a 400. I said my high end would be $1500, but I went $1700. I am glad I did. I had the chance to drive it more and I am in love. Now comes the fun part - fixing it up.

Lets see, I need: steering wheel, 3 pt conversion, fenders, pto lever linkage, operators manual, shop manual, pto shield - and that should about enough for tomorrow.

One thing I noticed (I am sure there will be a lot of things I notice) is that the clutch does not have much play to it. Is this something that is normal or that just needs adjustment? There is barely 1/2" push in the pedal before it before engages. Just an observation.

Be sure to follow the special sequence for clutch & TA adjustments. One influences the other.
An original 400 manual has the info.

get the manual and adjust that linkage correctly., the clutch and the TA are connected through thelinkages and it is very important to do itproperly or premature wear could result

TK,

Congrats! I picked up a 400D about a year ago, and I can tell you that you got a better deal than I did! Have fun.

Well Darn. I would have been interested but I bought the set today before I read your reply.

You can not believe my joy when I found out a good internet IH parts company is located not ten minutes from me. Its Bates Corporation. (http://www.batescorp.com/)

I guess I knew the owner but didn't really know what he did. Talk about finding something right under your own nose.

Thanks for the update TK.
So many of the postings here and also on the 9N, 2N and 8N Ford board that I read have a beginning but no ending.
A person is kinda left hanging, wondering what the end result was.
