Foam On Beer Is OK, But From My Radiator?

My 460 Utility has developed a strange problem. When I first got the tractor it would overheat. After a radiator flush, new thermostat, new fan belt and cleaning the radiator fins it helped. It still tends to run a little hot (180 to 200 degrees) but does not overheat. I have used it for mowing the last 2-3 months with no problems. Now after running for a couple of hours, foam comes out the overflow and around the cap. THICK FOAM! (Like someone dumped a bottle of dish soap in the raadiator.) Like I said it doesn't overheat. Then it quits and then about an hour later it will start up again. What gives?

ok capt, no beer here just a fix that does work and if not all you are out is ma complaining someone has robbed the pantry. Make sure the coolannt is down a ways and warm the tractor up good and dump in 3 or 4 cans of carnation evaporaeted milk. Let system work for a good mix and it will curdle enough to seal a bad spot in a head gasket. Bought a cat crawler many years ago that the farmer fessed up to the problem and what he done and it never was a problem in the four years I owned it.Not a proper way but it worked.

The silicates in certain anti freezes sometimes interact with silicone gasket material. Try flushing the system again and use a different brand of anti freeze. Just a quick and easy check before your tear the head off to look at the gasket.

I'm hoping your right. When I changed the thermostat I didn't have a gasket so I used Permatex Silicone Gasket Material. It was after that I started getting the foaming problem.

it sounds like your head gasket has a leak in it

Had a GM 5.7L diesel in a car that suffered a broken head bolt - your description fits that problem. Was getting blow-by past head gasket at that piont, depositing into the coolant system. Like the fellow below says, lots of work ahead!

Or a cracked block or Head. Pray for Head Gasket. Either way you've got some work ahead of you.
