There is no dip stick for the 504 there is a level fill plug. It is right rear side of the located on the right side of the rear center frame

According to the manual. Fill the rear center frame to the level plug opening. cycle your hydraulics 10 to 12 times with the fill plug open
and refill

I have spent the last 6 years looking for this level plug on my gas 504 industrial. If you have a 504 industrial look down the filler hole next to the shift lever. you will see a triangle formed by the metal casting inside the case. Fill to the bottom of this triangle.

Althought the manual states the it takes 12 gallon of hydraulic fluid that does not account for
the front end loader of backhoe

Yes there is a difference between an 504 utility and a 504 industrial. The industrial model tended to be worked a lot harder then the utility models.

My industrial model does not have a three point hitch or PTO. It had a backhoe instead. I have been looking at several 504 utitlities to possible replace it.
