Your tractor is a Super A. The FAA prefix was used on the A and the Super. There's a break in the serial numbers, the first Super A serial number being 250001. Touch Control hydraulics first were available for the Super A, but this was an option and though most have it, some were sold without it. I've only ever seen one Super A without hydraulics, and as I recall it was not far from your serial number.

Al: Just a short while back here on this discussion forum we discovered a 1947 Farmall A with factory hydraulics. I don't have the particulars, but at the time we checked out casting codes, tractor and engine serial numbers. It was indeed an A and one of the last built, and did have the factory hydraulics.

Years ago when these tractors were new, my uncle had one with hydraulics. His son tells me it would have been about a 46-47 and was indeed an A. He later traded it for a Super A. One item clear about IH is they were never consistant.

Bud is right the Super A has hydraulics and the plain A does not.

I believe it must have touch control ( hydraulics ) to be a SA.

1948 Super A sn#'s start @ 250082. sn#256149 should be a 1948 SA.
