In the late 1970's, when IH was using the AMC 6-cylinder engines in their pickups and Scouts, I was working in the parts department at an AMC/Jeep dealer and I noticed a lot of cast iron (manifolds, etc) from AMC that was coming thru with IH casting marks...guess that was a "trade-out" for using the engines. Maybe the GM deal was a "trade-out" for some of the Delco-Remy electrical stuff IH used over the years. Lots of manufacturers had some wierd symbiotic relationships way back when, and it's probably just a carryover from those days.
