I have a 1949 Farmall C and the PTO shaft broke off inside where the shear key sets. Does any one know how to get the old one out so I replace it after I find another one ,,, Thanks

You have to remove the complete PTO assembly from the tractor. Drain the transmission and take out the 6 bolts that hold it to the transmission housing. Take the four bolts out that hold on the belt pulley first and remove that first. After all 6 bolts are out you can slide the complete PTO assembly out. Once that is out, the PTO gear has to come off the shaft which may require a puller. Don't try to drive out the shaft, as the woodruff key in the gear will keep you from driving it through the housing. Since yours is broken, the shaft and gear may come out to the inside without removing the gear. You will need to gaskets and seals to do the job right. If you have the belt pulley be sure to get the "o" ring seal for it.

I have had mine apart a couple of times fixing a gasket leak on the real axle housing. You can just unbolt everything from the back. Seems like there are either 5 or 7 bolts. The entire pto/belt pulley will come off as one piece. Once you remove this you have access to the rear-end/transmission.
