ive located an 826, and im really interested. it skips and needs a waterpump. previous posts say its the fuel pump, a good friend of mine told me it would be 2000 just to have the fuel pump overhauled. how much is it to do the whole motor? also where can i find a used pump if it isnt any good. the tractor only has 4800 hours on it. also where can i locate a used water pump and a turbo kit? ive herd the german motors can be very expensive, but ive also herd there real runners. thanks, derek

I reciently rebuilt a D312 in a 686 and the kits were about twice the price for the majoriy of similar engines, even more than the kits for a JD. It was worth it though. The best price I got was from Endurance Power (don't have the number but just search web and it will come up). They were vry helpful on the phone. As far as the water pump goes I just got a new one for my 986 from Worthington Ag new cheaper than a used one with a core charge. It was worth it for me since I am bad at boxing things up and returning them. I'm not much help on the injector pump since I have been lucky in that I have not lost one yet. Before you rebuild the pump, I would suggest pulling the injectors and taking them to some one local to be tested. They can test the spray patern and tell if they are blocked. Hope this helps.

Hi never worked on an 826 but my cousin had one for many years and it was a great tractor. With only 4800 hrs on it I would doubt if it is the injection pump especially if it is a Bosch pump.
These German build Diesel engines usually last a long time and the Bosch injection pumps were very good as well.
Although someone could have been careless with fuel quality and regular replacement of fuel filter(s).
Does it miss only on 1 cylinder?
OR rev high then die down?

I would first check the complete fuel system. Drain tank and clean out all the 30 years of crud. Replace fuel filter(s). Disconnect input line to injection pump and blow out with compressed air. Reconnect everything and chech all fuel lines for cracks or leaks including injector lines. Fill with new fuel plus a Diesel fuel conditioner to remove any water out of the injection pump. Bleed lines, injection pump and injector lines. Start engine and see if problem still exists.

If problem still exists reposts with more details.

Good luck
JB
