Did they have an earlier version of lights on the 1939 H's and M's than the bullet shaped Guide. I bought an early H that has a Doray light on the back with a guide lens and a chrome ring. My neighbor said that the early one were that way and I was wondering if some could tell me more. They fasten on with a hinge setup instead of the bolt like on the Guide.

The 39 lights had a square insulator base for the termainal scew & wire. I have had several of these lights that when stripped of paint were red over black, or just plain red. I know some of the pics int the photo archives book show some darker shade lights (black?), but the issue remains as to what was the operating procedure was at farmall concerning the lights, Starters, & generators in 1939 (which is not for sure), and if these attachments were installed by the dealer and or customer (the complete attachments are listed in the 9/15/39 parts book for the H&M.

I won't say that no black ones were produced, because I'm not sure, and have not done the research as you have, but a lot of the early literature was pre-production, and incorrect as far as color, etc. Hope Guy Fay answers this one.
