Type of Calcium chloride used in tire question

Can anyone tell me if the 50lb. bags of Calcium Chloride flake type or the 50lb. bags of Calcium Chloride pellet type found at local Agway store's be used for mixing with water for filling a tractor tire. I though it was ok., but I just wanted to be sure since I seen that there are apparently different types. Another reason I ask this question is that I was wondering if there are some types of Calcium Chloride that are less prone to making those irratating hazardous fumes when mixing with water or are they all the same. Also does lime really help neutralize the steel eating corrosiveness of the Calcium Chloride when mixed in for the tires.

Thanks, Ray in Pa.

They now have a new "magnesium chloride" that they're selling and using on the roads here in upstate NY. I got some over the summer at my tire place. Claim it's less corrosive than the old calcium chloride. I've heard that adding lime will lessen the corroding effects, but not neutralize them. Good luck! PS When in doubt, use antifreeze. More $ but no corroding! Later...

Ray, We have winter formula windshield washer fluid in all of our loaded tires, about 1/2# lighter per gallon, but non-corrosive, environmentally friendly, and easier to pump in. About .75 per gallon at Wal-Mart. Pete

Ray, You want the flake for mixing your own. It mixes real easy, you ca use a drill with a 1/2" rod to mix, like one of those paint mixers. I don't know about the other type being different just a little harder to mix. I wouldn't think lime would make less toxic as lime isn't very good on metal either. What part of Pa are in? I'm in southern Clearfield County.
