I got a 404 a few weeks ago. The tractor sat for 12 years before being ran. I tuned it up and got the engine running. The oil on the stick after running a while showed some water in it(milk). Where would the water be coming from? It doesnt seem to be a lot but there again I havent ran the engine long either. I did a compresion check on it before cranking it up and all cylinders were around 120. Any Ideas on what my next step is?

Butch, i agree with Buck, try that route first and after a few runnings, hopefully it will be alright.

Considering the fresh oil and the very good compression I would suggest that you give the old girl a little time. Watch for white smoke on startup and each time it is started let the engine run at asy 1000 rpm untill warmed up good. After each few hours of use pull the plugs and look for very clean and bright plug tips. While doing this keep a close watch on the water level and the amount of moisture accumulating in the oil. The plugs will tell you if the problem is in the head. Got a feeling there is no problem--just the old girls way of telling you she's glad to be running again.

Several paths exists for the water to get into the crankcase. Get a large size bottle of Bars Leak and give it a dose following instructions on the product.

You say it sat for about 12years, did you change the oil before you started it up??? If not that is where it came from since it sat condensation put water in the oil. But if you changed it before starting it disregaurd what I have said

If the tractor sat for many years it could be that the o rings at the bottom of the sleeves have dried out and cracked, leaving the water seep into the crankcase. The only way to know is to drop the pan and pressurize the cooling system and watch for leaks.
