I have a IH carb that is found on most H's. After cleaning it throughly, I put a new needle and seat in it, adjusted the float. Tractor starts and runs fine but smokes slighly black from the exhaust. I have closed the fuel adjustment screw almost entirely, and nothing changes. What do I do next?

I have never worked on one of these carbs, so I am perfectly capable of doing something stupid!

It does seem to run fine at full throttle.

Carb adjustments are kinda easy and kinda difficult, First,, start by adjusting the idle adjustment,, Warm up the engine, and idle it down as low as it will go, adjust the idle adjustment until the smoothest operation is achieved. should not lope of smoke at an idle. then,, open the throttle to the wide open position,, start by turning the load adjustment about 1.5 turns off the seat,, and then back it out until it will smoke,, then turn the adjustment screw in until it smooths out. and no smoke,, idle the engine back down and quickly open it back up,, should operate smoothly,, the float could be still not right,, could be overflowing the fuel bowl and coming out the metering stem,, make sure that the bowl bolts are tight, a vaccum leak could happen around the venturi, and will draw fuel up past the gasket and into the venturi, Hope this helps,, ChadS
