Help needed again... !. I bought a Carquest "hot" coil part #EC UC-12x,cost $50.19 and resistor # RBR 24036 cost$12.82
Also bought champion spark plugs #502 (D21) and universal wire set, points, condenser, rotor and cap.
The auto store says its a replacement hotter version from stock but coil is almost twice the size. Question is, do I buy a bigger bracket and use it or go to the Case/IH dealer and get stock coil.
2. Bought an air filter from Case dealer and it appears that it is too long. Part #AF808K.
I know I'm going to appear really dumb, but I cant seem to get the old air filter out to measure the two. I unscrewed the circular clamp, dropped the bottom and inner metal part that holds the oil bath. Cant seem to get the filter out. I'm waiting for the service and parts manual to come I ordered from Binder Books, but until then, I'm stumped and dont want to pry anything I'm not sopossed to. Would appreciate any advice on either subject. Thanks

Why not get the right coil from O.E.M. Tractor Parts? They are reproducing the IH coil. It will cost you about the same as the one you bought plus it will fit. It will look right as well. It even has red paint. I think your local Case/IH dealer will only have a big generic coil. 800 283 2122

1.) Either way should work with the coil... it's your choice. Does Carquest have a bracket for the larger coil?

2.) If your tractor has an oil filled cup under the air cleaner, I assume it is an old OIL BATH air cleaner, and does not use a replaceable element. If the filter from Carquest is, in fact, for a 560, it must be for a newer serial number, or is there a difference between the gas and diesel?

Bob,
Thanks for the advice. I'll get a larger coil bracket.
The air cleaner was from the IH/Case dealer. He must of read the wrong part # from the parts manual. I'll try to return it.
Now the question is, How do you take the oil bath type apart to clean it. Looking up from the bottom it appears greasy.
Thanks.

on my 560 diesel I took it off and stuck it in a 5 gallon bucket with gasoline and let it sit for about a day. there was a inch or two of grime in the bottom of the bucket. I also cleaned the air tube to the intake manifold also there was about half a inch of crusty oily film on it. Once I did that it quit smoking while going down the road.

Thanks for the tip. That sounds easy. For a second I started laughing when you said that after getting all that sludge out YOU stopped smoking when going down the road! Sounded for a minute that all that junk caught in the filter reminded you of cigarette filters! My mistake, I got it now!
