I am getting ready to replace all the woodwork on an IH manure spreader. If pressure treated is not available, can I treat the wood by putting crankcase oil on all none painted surfaces to extend the life? This will be my personal spreader and will be usd for stanchioned cows on sawdust and straw - drier fresh manure. Thank you guys.

ooh, nice cows!!!!! !!
ya, just coat it good with oil, I'm not convinced it does any good but it makes a guy feel like he tried. Good yellow pine should last 20 years, after that who cares?

On the farm we used to have a 5 gallon little motor driven orchard sprayer. In warm weather- with the wood bone dry- mix drain oil with a little kero and spray away. Cover the rubber tires Etc.cause oil will eat it up! All of the field equipment got the same treatment. Plows, field chopper, spreader Etc. Stops things from rotting out. Under truck fenders ETC. EPA will have a fit! Remember when the county would OIL the roads to put down the dust!!! Jeff
