I had purchased a 786 a few years ago knowing there was a problem with the TA. It did not want to work in high range but worked fine in low. Now the problem is that when you rev it up it does not want to go in any gear. When you idle it back it's fine and will even spin the tires. I thought it was the clutch but shouldn't it slip all the time?

sometimes clutches will hold under low idle but high will not, also will hold when cold then when they get hot, will slip, have also seen them slip cold then hold when cold. that said, it really does not matter, since when you split your tractor to do the t.a. you usaully have to do the clutch anyway, if your flywheel is turned to far or is in need of replacing, then it is a good idea to upgrade it to the 14" clutch and flywheel

like doug said, it all depends. i have a 706 that the t/a is out on the low side. when it's cold it holds but when it warms up it slips. sometimes it will hold in low but never in high when warm
