Cant do any thing else to my 400 until the parts get here. So I figured I would mosey on over to the other side of the shap were my 300 has been watching me work on the 400 and getting mad at me for making her wait so long.
So I pulled the ,ptor and got those pesky stuck pistons out of there once and for all.
I have been vasilating on what to do with it for some time now. I may try to hone the old cylinders and put in used pistons with new rings. Or wait a bit and put all new sleeves and pistons in. Maybe I will wait and see if I make any Hay money next summer. I updated the 300 page with the info. Been a wile since I added any thing there.

If the pistons and sleeves look in good enough shape for you go ahead and use them. If you have a good machine shop you trust take the pistons and rings and while your at it the crank and get them mic'ed and get their opinion on them. If it were me though, if you've got to replace things such as the TA and the clutch, in my opinion you may as well go the extra mile spend the extra on the pistons and do it right the first time. Hey it's waited this long and you have the 400 now for the heavy lifting. Conversely if you do have to replace those items maybe you'd want to save a few bucks by just re-ringing not to mention getting into service faster. Either way best of luck, I always get a kick out of the adventures and misadventures on your website.
In all honesty I'm a real tight wad, If I could get away with re-ringing I'm not sure I wouldn't go that route myself but I'd hate to see you get that 300 back together and then have problems when the hay's on the ground.

Kelly, Glad to see you finly got those two pistons out! Even though you made a little extra work on the bolster. Now that the pistons and sleeves are cleaned up , check them for wear.
The piston ring grooves, top edge, The sleeves for grooves, wear in the mid section of sleeve. Wear where the sleeve is tight at top and bottom and wide in the middle. If it looks OK,then get a new ring set, hone the hound out of each cylinder and get to putting her back together. You havent mentioned the crank and cam yet, hope they are within in tolerances. Then that leaves the bolster and TA.
Good Luck,
John A.
