What is the best product and method for unsticking a Farmall H? I have an additional problem using 5th gear to drag it around and try to free it. My H has a M&W live clutch that slips when I pull it in 5th. Has anyone had experience repairing or bolting a M&W clutch so it can not slip?

I just finished overhaulling a stuck H.As we rolled it off the trailer I popped the clutch and we think that is what bent the crank. We tried viniger,WD-40, Kerosine, and a hammer but never got the one stuck piston out. Finnally cut it with a tourch.

One should never pull a vehicle or tractor to break an unstuck engine. What you will do is cause all the rust and debris on the cylinder walls and rings to be cycled through a stroke, this can cause more damage to cylinder walls, sleeves, and rings. Rocking the rear wheels is a better method as the pistons will move slowly back and forth causing the pistons to only move a little each way and cleaning their path of up or down gradually. Oil squirted into the cylinder will lube the rust and debris and the likelihood of causing more damage is minimized. You also run the risk of damage to clutch,or breaking an axle by towing to break it free. I am a prponent of jacking up one side of the tractor, putting it in gear and rocking the wheel. My son in law didn't believe me but he unstuck a 33 Massey doing just what I told him to do. I wish you good luck Jim and it would be nice if it freed up without major surgery. I always believe if an engine stored properly inside becomes siezed the signs are the engine is good, tight and will unsieze and work....Mike in Exeter Ontario

First fill all the cylinders with oil or tranmission fluid and walk away from it for a week, then top the cylinders off with turpentine and let that set a day or 2. If its going to brake loose it will then if it doesn't pull the head and rebuild the engine. Oh by the way I have never had an engine that didn't brake loose doing what I said to do, but theres is always a first

I would just admit that it is stuck and pull the head. Every time I have dragged a tractor around trying to break it loose, I later find that when I pull the head I'm glad it didn't break loose.

Always been at least one cylinder full of rust or other that would have broken something if it came loose.

Only once did I get lucky and broke a tractor loose with a prybar on the ring gear...

I agree. For all the more trouble it is, tear the head off and see what is going on in the engine if it does not break free easily. Just avoids further expense later.
