Oil Pressure Problem on H

I have a 1942 H which loses oil pressure as the tractor warms up. It starts out with normal pressure, but as it warms up it gradually decreases, but never goes completely down to the zero mark. Am I risking damage by running the tractor this way?

Had an H that did the same thing when I was growing up. (We farmed 800 A w/4 H's.) Overhauled one one winter & didn't put in new cam bearings-they seemed OK. Oil pressure dropped about the middle of the next summer. Had good pressure when it started, dropped to almost nothing after it warmed up. Ran it all the rest of that season & all the next year that way. Tore it down, put in new rings, bearings & cam bearings. Its still running, except when it sets in my back yard & its not pushing snow. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

OIL press sure; Is the pressure sensor/indicator in top form? Are there any oil passages that are crudded up and effecting sensing as temperature goes up? If the rest of the "thread" contributors agree perhaps 8 ounces of Duralube could be added to the oil volume to protect the friction surfaces.

another problam with low oil presure is that hardly any of it will get filtered because the only oil that goes through the filter is what gets pushed through the little hole in the bolt that holds the oil filter cover on.

This same subject was covered just a few days ago, but I will give you some insight on it anyway. I have a 1950 H with the same symptoms. It makes no difference at all what weight of oil you are using. I have straight 30 in mine, which I had hoped would help, and it may have a little bit, but the problem is still there. It is possible that the bearings in your engine are worn, which would contribute to low oil pressure, but the problem is most likely with either a bad gasket in the oil pump, worn surfaces in the pump, or a weak by-pass spring in the pump. To answer your question on whether or not you will harm the engine, probably not, as long as you don't work the tractor extremely hard, or for long periods of time. Mine has been that way for about 3 years now, but usually by the time the pressure starts to drop, I am done with what I was doing.

What type of oil do you run in it? if its something like a 10W-30 or any thing like that thats part of the problem, old engines like oil like 30,40,or 50 weight oils better. Also when they where made it was hard to find anything but that type of oil. Now that that is said if you do run a stright weight oil you probably have some loose bearings in the engine
