My 300U scared me!

I was out playing in the snow last weekend with my 300U with a front end loader to see if I could move any snow with it. I had gone up to the end of my driveway and turned around. I was coming down with the bucket to low and by the time I relized I had no steering I was heading toward the edge of the road and about a 6 foot drop down to the creek bed. I just paniced, didn't know what to do for a second. I actually was thinking about jumping off. I came back to my senses and hit the brakes at the same time as I raised the bucket and stopped just as the right front tire was about to go over. I guess my point is that you have to be careful all the time and maybe think about what you would do in different situations. I'm new to tractors, but am gaining more respect for them. I felt really lucky after my heart fell back in place.
Anything like this happen to any of you?

OH YEA! If you have down pressure on your 300 front loader they don't stear very well with the wheels off the ground. Thats what the two brake pedals are for. You were drivein a very big Flexable Flier weren't you!

Randy, Glad to hear that you are allright with no injuries! I have only been involved with old tractors for the past few years and respect them for what they are. When I first started using my A with a sicklemower, there were some spots on my property that were pretty steep, I just put that tractor in first gear with just a little throttle, and crept along with it. I put the left side of the tractor on the uphill side as some on this site suggested and managed to mow the property with no problems. After I knew what lines on the hills I could take with that machine, I just kept in mind for the next mowing. Go slow when not sure is certainly good advice. My farmer neighbors probablly got a laugh out of how slow I was going, but Im still around to talk about it!
