What was the correct starter rod linkage for a 53 Sh ser. 12354. Was it a Hand operated pull rod or was it foot operated ?

I have a SM sn 27223 and ran into a SM sn 30006, and I have the foot starter, but the 30006 has pull rod starter and battery box under the seat, acutally a tool box, as the battery is still under the tank. One of them transition tractors. I know by sn listings during the Stage I, II, and III transitions that my tractor was just before the switch, but I would like to see if the 30006 was after or darn close, as it is partially a Stage II. Never really know, I don't think.

The closest one I have to your number is 11901 and it has the pull rod. I agree with Bob that the foot starter is much more user friendly, especially if you have much of a beer belly. Just out of curiosity what state do you live in ? thanks Pat in Wisc

I have a late 54 Super H that has a push button start w/300-350 starter. I am going to cnange back to the foot operation and maybe change back to 6 volt system.

Daryl - According to the SH parts catalog the change from hand pull rod to the step-on starter switch linkage began with S/N 13340. So the "correct" linkage for yours would be the hand pull.

FWIW we've got one SH each way - I much prefer the step-on setup!

Chad - Does your SH have live hydraulics? I suspect if a Stage 1 (early, belly pump hydraulic) Super H had live hydraulics added to it later on, the step-on starter linkage had to be added too because the live hydraulic reservoir would interfere with the original starter pull rod. But that's just a guess...

Suppose also there's others (besides myself) that prefer the step-on to the pull rod. So the linkage might have been switched over for that reason.

It is just like a regular H on the hydraulics, belly pump, has disk brakes. I bought it from the original owner, used it to rake hay all it's life. Foot starter was original on this one, I have a few newer ones, and one very very early Super H. The latest one I have has the starter in the different location, it is a 3 bolt, has live power, 300 style front bolster, fenders, it is all original, and not been restored, or parts removed. My brother in law has a nice 53 SH, it has a foot starter as well, but it has live hyd, with a vertical distirbutor,Chad
