That serial number exists on many different tractor models--you need to give a better description. Go to the tractor photos and see if you can find one that looks like it and take it from there.

I should have mentioned this in the other post. Find the prefix to the serial on the tag--You will find letters such as FAA, FAB, FC, FBK, FBH, etc. These will be painted numbers or letters, not stamped like the actual number.

What if the paint is gone? Would or could any of the numbers stamped into the block or transmission help?
Are the starters pretty universal for IH. I need one. I has like a capaciator or something(not sure of the correct name) that sits on top of the starter that the wires connect to. thanks
Also this may help. it has 3pt hitch and the lift arms have a external hydro cylindar for each arm.

It probably has an add-on 3pt hitch. No help at all, unfortunately...

No, starters are not universal, and that's a solenoid (cell-uh-noyd). If this is an old Farmall, it's had some modifications.

Where is the battery located? How many caps does it have?

If your sitting on the tractor, the battery is on the left side under the dash. Im assuming by caps you mean like fuel and radiator caps. The fuel cap is located directly on top of the tank. there is a piece of sheet metal that connects to the dash(where gauges are located) and it covers the tank. The steering has 3 universal joints in it. the steering shaft runs down the left side of the tractor. Exhaust straight out the top. The air cleaner is between the radiator and exhaust. It is suppose to have a hose or something connected to it and the carb. the cubic inches on the motor says 135. and the tag on the bell housing says international harvester. Ill study the hydro system a little better and see if its add on. The brakes, im not sure how to describe them. on each side of the rear end there are round housings about 3 to 4 inches deep that the brake rod goes into. thats all i can think of now. if you ahve any questions let me know. thanks for your help. oh my starter has the solenoid on it. i believe the pn is 537140r96. i got that out of a tisco book. anyway thanks for you help.

I know that a farmall 504 with manual steering has a lot of u-joints in it. Does it have a large round tachometer in the dash?

Yes it has a large tach on the dash. Could it be a farmall even though it says Internationl Harvester on the id plate. Did that farmall 504 have a serial number 3491j or 3491u?
Thanks
John

I have not seen a 404 or 504 in person, but the 504 has a 153 cu in engine, the 404 does have a 135 as does the 330 and 340, and others. Go to tractor photos and look for these models.

Hey yeah i looked at a 340 and mine looks very similar to it. Does the starter on the 340 have the solenoid on top of the starter? Know where i can get a starter for it? Thanks
John

DOn't know about the starter solenoid, the same starter was used on several tractors, try valu bilt dot com.
