Hi guys, My bosses son is 13, and he's moving from the go-kart to the antique tractor stage, he wants an old tractor, bin lookin around for some and theres an aution coming up with farmalls in it. Im almost 16 and have never bought anything from an aution before or bought a tractor, havnt realy bin looking for prices of farmalls either. This aution has a 806 gas SC, C,A,H and a restored 1937 F-12 with 2R cultivater. I would think the 12 would bring $1200-$1500 CAN so i will give you the sight to look at them.I will try to post the link if it dosnt work then here it is. www.jackmorrisauctions.com once there click on SALES LISTINGS INDEX then go down 5 autions to the AUTHIER FARMS AUCTION. When you get there, there is a list of the tractors. The 806 is out, all the others are fair game. hes got $1200 to play with im not sure if he'll come away with anything but its worth a try.
Sorry for such a long post, hope you can check the pics out and let me know what you think of them and what a good price is for them. The prices are in CAN

Farmallkid: I was at an auction yesterday in Thedford, mostly newer Deere tractors, about 14, and only 1 - 2 cylinder that I saw. There was a good size Allis, an IH 660D, SC with cultivators and a sweetheart of a 240 Utility, I went there precisely for. I registered, stood around in the rain and freezing rain for an hour. Picked up a schedule of order of selling, watched about 2 dozen guys look the 240 over keenly. Decided it wasn't worth my while standing around for another 4 hours in whatever the good lord intended to rain down on us, only to bid against these 2 dozen guys. I promptly decided home by the fireside was the best place for me. I have no idea what things sold for. If I hear I will let you know.

I have been hearing a few prices though, and I'm doubtful $1,200. Can is going to take any of those tractors. It will not take a lot more than that though. $1,600. will do it, $1,200 will take the A if no attachments. I agree with Paul, you should go for the H. You and his buddies all have H's and M's. There are two or three more auctions up this way next week, I will keep you posted on prices. I warn you though, no reports if temp is hovering on freezing in the rain.

Farmallkid, Being State side, I may be off as far as how far the Canadian dollar will go as compared to U.S. money, but judging from the pics, I'd say, given the fact that they are all running tractors, that the Super C will go higher than your friend's budget. The same may be true for the A, but that would be a nice tractor if it can be bought for around $1,200. I'd say the best chance would be the H because the other tractors tend to bring more than an H. Also the H would probably be the easiest to work on if restoration is the goal, even tho cosmetically it appears to need more attention. I have worked on both H's and A's and find A's to be more demanding and intensive to work on. While I do personally love the A's, I think an H is a great first tractor, but thats only one man's opinion, and I would not pass up a good buy on the H if its first to be auctioned hoping to get a good buy on the others as it may not happen. A lot of things hinge on the sequence of the auction. I can't comment much on the F-12 as I'm not sure what they are going for these days.

i think a C/SC is a nice first tractor. My C im doing now is my first. Its a handful, but mine was basically a basketcase...without the basket.

My guess would be that the minimum price for the A, Super C, and H would be $1200, they will probably average about $1500, one or the other of them could bring as much as $2000--I wouldn't pay over $1500-$1700 for any of them. The 9-speed on the H is a plus, it gives two speeds in each gear except 5th. I don't believe M&W or Heisler?, ever made a 10 speed. A 30 mph 5th would be deadly.

Nice auction... I think you'll find that the F12 will sell for far more in the end than $1,200.00 CDN because of the new rubber and paint etc.
My first tractor was a Farmall H , and it's a good 1st timer tractor...not too big and scary to work on, and yet big enough to do some tractor pulling. ----Jeff
