Hello, I spent most of the winter working on restoration of my farmall 200. Finally got it back together. It sure is sweet when you've done all that work, put the final parts back together, then crank it and it fires first time! Whew! Saying all that, I have a question for ya'll. This tractor originally had a positive ground ignition system. (Positive battery post grounded) When I bought it the negative post was grounded and it started and ran just fine that way; however, the battery cable clamps and the size of the battery posts didn't match up properly. I replaced the battery and the battery cable and made it positive ground. Everything matches up and fits as it should. The generator is new also and is working as it should. (polarized it, no problem) Now to the question. My guage shows discharge when it is charging. Do ya'll suspect that this tractor was at one time changed from a positive ground to a negative ground, and that I need to reverse the leads on the ammeter?

Sounds like you have the problem figured out.

If you watch the gauge when you start the engine and you get the right- but opposite - indications ie: showing a charging when it should be discharging as you crank the starter and then showing a discharging when it should be showing a charging , then you need to switch your wires.

Deamer, I am also doing a 200. I'm not as far along as you, still getting parts. If you can, post us a picture of your baby. Have you painted the 200? Joe, northern VA.

joe,
Go to the "Galleries" to the left side of this home page. Select "Tractor Photos" and do a search for "1956 model 200" My tractor as I bought it should come up for you. Deamer

Joe,
Well I have sort of painted some of it. When I disassembled the front end, removed the radiator, repaired it, took off the front end shrouds, thomostat housing etc. I didn't want to tear it down again just to paint it as I still need it running for some chores. I have cleaned, primed and painted the front end from the generator voltage regulator forward and the sheet metal. What is painted looks good. The balance still has some gunked dirt/oil to remove. I'm glad to have it back together and running for the present. My goal is to have it finished by the 4th of July and have it in the local parade pulling a wagon loaded down with the family and flying "Ole Glory." e-mail me. Maybe we can help each other with information of our projects. My e-mail isn't blocked. I don't have a photo yet. My tractor photo of the "before" is somewhere on this site. Do a search for the model 200 it should come up. Deamer
