Just a note to everyone with an A, B, etc.. If you store your tractor outside, or anywhere there are mice, plug up the torque tube! Mice have almost filled up my friends tractor and he ran it quite a bit over the winter. Needless to say.....starter messed up ring gear, clutch is packed up and has now been laboring the motor when he pushes the clutch it, and the SMELL!!! A tractor split is now in order and I am always the local splitter in our little old tractor circle. Trust me, do not wait for this to happen. It is a mess!

A mouse cost me an engine on a ferguson. It crawled up the exuast pipe and filled the manifold and one cylinder with seeds. It cranked and fired and had a little trouble compressing weed seeds. Bent the rod and valves.

Their urine will also ruin the front transmission oil seal.

I think on the A and B, the mice are factory installed. They're a special breed, rodentii farmallensis, also known as the "stinkymouse". I'm not sure an A or B will operate properly without them.

Oh yeah. All over. In front of the flywheel/ring gear, all over in the clutch and clutch dogs, filling the torque tube with everything they can find to put in. One more thing, a cat cannot eat as many mice as what come from the woods. Set traps, and stuff the hole underneath the tube with steel wool. That should deter them critters enough to go find a home in the neighbors yard!!

Jim, Mabe you friend should keep a few cats. I have had mice build nests on the manifolds around the exhaust pipe on my M but never inside the tractor. We always had a few cats on the farm.
