Just to let everyone know the live hydraulics are fully functional on my '42 H. it even has enough pressure to lift a 24' culipacker, but doesn't have quite enough pressure to lift a 22' disk.

The real reason for the post....
The transmission knocks when it is in 4th gear. we drained the fluid (looked more like grease than gear lube) and added 90w to it. Still knocks in fourth gear. the other gears work just fine and no knocking is present. just wondering if this is a common problem or if something needs to be taken care of immediately.

Been a while since I last worked on an H, but it sounds as if you have a broken tooth on the gear. I'd suggest not using 4th until you can check it out. P.S. that transmission cover is HEAVY.

If its any thing like my 400. You can see all the gears if you remove the belt pulley.
I had missing teeth on the constant mesh gear so mine knocked all the time. I would guess you have about a 85% chance you have some broke teeth on the 4th gear.

I can't help with the tranny problem, but wondered about your live hydraulics. Did you add a belt driven pump? If so, please give some details and post pictures if you can.

Someone had added a live hydraulic pump to the tractor. it did have a belt driven pump that was used for a loader (main lift) and the live pump was for the bucket. if you need some pics i can proly get some rounded up if you want to email me. George.264@osu.edu
