For years, the 350D had received a steady diet of non-detergent 30 weight when we changed the motor oil. On the last oil change I switched to 15W-40 and shortly thereafter it developed a leak when the engine is running at the base of the injector housing where it bolts to the engine block. I guess I'm not suprised lighter oil found a place to leak. However, before I take this apart, what exactly is the interface between the injector and the block? Is there a gasket there, or is it metal to metal? Would using the gasket-in-a-tube stuff work, or should I get a proper fitted gasket from the CNH dealer?

Another thing to consider is just going back to the 30-w oil. Other than the gasket or o-ring drying out, what may have caused the problem is the ability of the newer class oils to 'creep'. We have experienced this on both Farmalls and Fords we have rebuilt. The new classes of oil actually have the ability to move or wick into or out of gaps or cracks that the older 30-w wouldn't. And yes it will appear to move up-hill along a timing gear cover. Some times it is just better to stay with what got it this far.
