i was wondering if anyone has ever switched a farmall 706 narrow front to a four wheel drive unit? is it a difficult switch? also, how hard are they to come by, and howmuch should i expect to pay if i do find one? i want a wide front, but a live one would be one up, and the picture in the front of my manual sure looks mean! i bet that an ih gear type front end would work alot better than a jd hydraulic type. thanks for any info. nate

the axle was made by the american coleman co. it takes a fourty acre field to turn the tractor around in.

Is that the hydraulic or mechanical front wheel assist? I thought the mechanicals were always built by an "Elwood Manufacturing Co."

Finding one that is not junk and/or already attached to a tractor is going to be tough.

FWIW, mounting it is easy enough; the early ones that fit the 706 have a cradle that bolts to the frame IIRC. Later ones from the 3088 era fit on the original kingpin, if I am not mistaken, but only on the much heavier kingpin of the later series tractors.
