Steel>Link Wheel Ranch also sells rebuilt TA units.

Good luck.

check to make sure the linkage for the TA is correct. a manual will show the correct adustments. i bought a 350 once that "quote" the TA was out but all it was to fix it was adjustments.

Tom, If your tractor goes fine when the TA lever is forward then this indicates that your TA clutch is not slipping. If when you pull the TA lever back and your tractor stops then the ramp and roll overrun clutch is shot. The TA is a handy item and you would not be without it once you have used it. The best solution in my opinion is to replace the ramp and roller over run clutch system with a sprague unit. They are a lot stronger and most likely will last your life time. I have replace the TA in three of my tractors with the sprague unit and all work very well. When I replaced the TA unit I replace Main clutch and pressure plate, The TA clutch and pressure place plus both throw out bearings all for under 900 dollars.

If the tractor works with the TA handle forward. Then you tractor is in direct drive. Works fine that way, as if it did not have a TA.
I put a rebuilt TA in my 400 this winter. It cost $499 + $100 core charge. Then another $60 for seals. It is not that hard to fix just time consuming as you do need to split the tractor.
Plug the link provided and click on the 400 page tab on the left side of my web site. I documented the procedure there.

The only stupid question is the one not asked. As for the T/A it depends on what you aare going to use the tractor for. If you plan on working it hard then it could be nice to have. But it is not essencial for the operation of the tractor. As for what could be wrong I do not know. I only know that it cost the previous owner of my 400 about a grand to replace the one in it. Welcome to the addiction and good luck.
