Gasket Air Leak 424?

I have a 1/8inch sized head gasket air leak just under and to the rear of the 3rd glowplug from the front of the engine (BD154).

It doesn't seem to cause power loss, or engine startup problems. Engine runs smooth and has lots of power.

Is this a major headache waiting to happen?. I tried to silicon it, but the pressure pushes it out. If there were any bolts near it, I could jimmy up an angle iron type cover plate with a "goop" gasket, but no bolts are handy near it.

Thanks.

Hi had a B414D with a BD154 diesel in the 1960s and after about 5000 hrs, the head gasket started to bubble a little air and antifreeze when it was cold. Ran it until the weather warmed up and then changed the head gasket. Not a big job but requires a torque wrench and feeler gages. If I remember correctly the head bolt tightening sequence is in the service manual and the valve adjustment gap as well.

Good luck
JB

I'd recomend replacing the head gasket, as a prolonged leak can damage the head, or could lead to anti-freeze getting in the oil,, not a good thing!! When you have the head off get it checked for warpage at an engine rebuilder.
