A good friend has a SMTAD he is restoring. I have seen them a few times, but not up close, They were a tractor ahead of their time in my opinion. He is the second owner of this tractor, but what strikes me,, is that he said it was built in Louisville KY. Would this make it a Louisville tractor?? How can you tell? ChadS

If it was made in Louisville, the serial number would start with an L, not an F. Also, some Super M's were built in 1952-1953 at Louisville, but MTA's never were. We have 2 MTAD's, and one MTA, and they really are tractors ahead of their time!

Randy is correct, according to Ken Updike's data book, all were built at the Farmall plant.

Chad s,check the serial number if it was built in that plant there should be the letter L stamped right before the numbers also check the block,if memory serves there should be a stamping unded the number 1 plug hole. BY the way thanks for your e mail response on rear tire sizes I found some 15/5/38 armstrongs 50% worn mounted them on 14 stock rims question on rim clamps mine only have one clamp per lug 8 total manual shows 2 there are stock cast rims whats up with that? Paul S M T A nut.

To the best of my knowledge, ther is 2 different types of hubs that they used on the M-450. they had 3 differnt styles of rims as well, you had the old style, which had the singe raised center, then the 3 step rims for later model tractors, then the style like on the late super M, MTA 400,and 450. The latest style only has 1 driving lug, and a nut to adapt the rim to the hub, and the rim has a raised "ring" around them in 2 or 3 different locations on the rim, so you can move the tires in and out with out having to mess with the hub on the axle. Hope this helps, I will have another look at the MDTA again, thanks! CadS
