I now have the shaft and housing off my H, how do I get the seal off. I've tried for 45 min. and couldn't get it off, it is the original two leather and round spring seal. Any body have advise?

Remove the two cap screws and pop the seal retainer off the housing. Take a punch & drive the seal out from the back side with the flange positioned on an open vise or other object large enough to support it.
Be sure to de-burr the shaft when reassembling so you do not cut the new seal. Thoroughly clean the splined area and sand or file off any rough areas.

Just sit down, take five, then take another look at it. The seal should easily tap out of the housing.
